MANILVA is a quaint village popular with Spanish locals as it is located on the east of Costa del Sol. Its exact location is about 12 kilometers east of Estepona while Marbella is about 35 kilometers away. Geographically, Manilva is quite within the reach of other active tourist towns and cities but somehow, neither the big scale tourism nor the property boom has altered its serendipity environment. This may be changing as more and more tourists are stopping by this charming village to discover its unpretentious and simple lifestyle enjoyed by the traditional locals. Tourists are becoming more curious about the sleepy village that lays en-route to Gibraltar.

The main town center of this capital is known as the municipality; it covers a few communities in Manilva, such as an inland village that is set up of whitewashed houses so typically Spanish, the little town of Sabanillas which is basically a fishing village located at its coast and a splendid yachting marina known as Puerto Duquesa, which lies peacefully in the midst of the natural beauty of the sea and the land, comprising a serene residential area and a golf course.

At its west, Manilva offers Castillo de Duquesa, which is another quaint fishing village whose name comes from the town castle. Further west on its coastline is the quiet and serene Punta Chullera, the hub of residential developments with a low tourist volume.

Mainstay of Manilva

The main industries that Manilva thrives on even today are agriculture, fishing and tourism. The level of tourism here rises year after year. Its rich valleys and fertile plains are most conducive to its growth of muscatel grape to produce its fine wines, like the sweet wines of Malaga, a favorite with many.

Although Manilva may be slow paced and quiet, this is a good place to relax and enjoy the sun without much fuss. There are more than enough bars to quench your thirst and sufficient restaurants to feast and satisfy your appetite, although they may be far from one another.

There may not be the usual lively and vibrant night life that a tourist might expect and accommodation is sparse, but nevertheless, this town is close to other bustling towns, such as Marbella or Estepona, which can provide the shopping or nightlife excitement just a drive away; one can do this as a day trip or a night excursion.
